Ahmet Mirza Duru is a Researcher at the Center for Applied Research in Finance (CARF) at Boğaziçi University, where he has worked since September 2026 on financial technologies and the use of artificial intelligence in finance. He is currently pursuing an MSc in Computer Engineering at Boğaziçi University, having completed his BA in Business Administration at the same institution in 2026. Over the course of his undergraduate studies he shifted his focus steadily toward quantitative work, concentrating on machine learning, neural networks, computer vision and statistics.
Mr. Duru began his research career in late 2024 with the JEDI Research Group at Boğaziçi University, where he worked on a TÜBİTAK-funded project carried out with an electricity distribution company and a technology firm. He measured a decade of urban growth from satellite imagery, built models forecasting future electricity consumption, developed a planning model determining where new transformers should be sited and at what capacity, and delivered the results as a map-based decision support tool.
During the same period he served as technical team lead at an artificial intelligence company. There he fine-tuned an open-weight language model to translate everyday questions into database queries, deployed his models into production for live users, built process automation systems for two separate companies, and wrote and launched a product from scratch.
In late 2025 he conducted independent research on the direction of crude oil prices.
His current interests center on how models developed at the research level can be turned into working real-world systems as efficiently as possible, and on how work that remains at a theoretical level can be brought to bear on active problems.
