The Center for Applied Research in Finance (CARF) and Boğaziçi University Lifelong Learning Center (BULLC) were delighted to host a distinguished delegation from Peking University, led by Dr. Li Haipeng, Teaching Associate Professor, Department of Arabic Language and Culture, School of Foreign Languages, Peking University and Dr. Lian Chaoqun, Associate Professor, Vice Director of Department of Arabic Language and Culture, School of Foreign Languages, Peking University. The delegation comprised 15 undergraduate and graduate students participating in an academic study visit to Türkiye under the theme
“Türkiye at the Crossroads: Geopolitical Hub, Civilizational Convergence, and Path of Transformation.”
The program opened with welcoming remarks by Prof. Dr. Vedat Akgiray, Founder and Chairman of the Board of CARF, who emphasized the importance of international academic collaboration, interdisciplinary research, and lifelong learning in strengthening global partnerships.
The first presentation was delivered by Dr. Selçuk Aydın, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science and International Relations, Boğaziçi University, who explored the historical foundations of the Ottoman Empire and the evolution of historical and cultural relations between Türkiye and China, providing valuable context for understanding the two countries’ longstanding partnership.
Dr. Ahmet Göncü, Associate Professor of Finance at Istanbul Technical University, presented an overview of Türkiye’s contemporary economic and industrial development and explored the prospects for China–Türkiye economic and trade cooperation. His presentation covered Türkiye’s economic transformation, developments in the financial, banking, and capital market ecosystem, regulatory reforms, industrial competitiveness, technology and renewable energy, comparative perspectives on the Turkish and Chinese economies and financial systems, bilateral trade dynamics, and strategic opportunities for future cooperation.
The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session, during which students and faculty members raised insightful questions on Türkiye’s economic outlook, financial markets, industrial policy, and the future of Türkiye–China economic cooperation. Prof. Dr. Vedat Akgiray and Dr. Ahmet Göncü addressed participants’ questions and shared their perspectives, fostering a dynamic and thought-provoking exchange of ideas.
