Prof. Dr. Vedat Akgiray, Chairman of the Board of CARF (Center for Applied Research in Finance), participated in the opening day of Istanbul Fintech Week 2026, dedicated to sustainable finance.

The panel, “Five Weeks to Antalya: What the Transition Needs From Finance,” brought together Prof. Akgiray, Seçil Yıldız (Executive Vice President, Development and Investment Bank of Türkiye) and Eyüphan Koç (Co-founder, Erguvan), moderated by Burçak İnel.

With COP31 approaching in Antalya, the discussion focused on a fundamental question: how the financial sector can turn sustainability commitments into meaningful investment and measurable results.

The conversation explored the climate transition’s financing needs, the role of financial institutions, innovative financing mechanisms, and the importance of directing capital toward sustainable economic growth.

The key takeaway is that sustainability requires more than ambitious targets. Credible data, effective financial instruments, and cooperation among policymakers, financial institutions, and businesses are essential to turning those targets into action.

Our thanks to the Istanbul Fintech Week organizers, Demet Zübeyiroğlu, moderator Burçak İnel, and fellow panelists for bringing together valuable perspectives on the future of sustainable finance.
