In accordance with the Zero Waste Regulation, which entered into force upon its publication in the Official Gazette dated 12 July 2019 and numbered 30829, the qualification criteria and scoring principles for zero waste certificates at the basic, silver, gold, and platinum levels were established separately for each certification category. These criteria were specifically developed for provincial municipalities, district municipalities with populations exceeding fifty thousand, organized industrial zones, shopping malls, airports, railway and bus terminals, ports, and accommodation facilities with a capacity of 50 rooms or more, as well as for all entities voluntarily implementing a zero waste management system. Furthermore, the “Zero Waste Qualified Certification Criteria Guideline,” including the control checklist containing the determined criteria and scoring system, together with the format and content of sustainability reports, was developed.
The aforementioned criteria were structured under the main headings of “activities aimed at waste reduction and prevention,” “activities aimed at reducing wastefulness,” “procurement and logistics activities,” and “activities intended to increase awareness and consciousness.” Within these main themes, categories were established covering system design, training, leadership, waste reduction, diversion from disposal, zero waste reporting, zero waste analysis, special waste management, special waste prevention, recycling, reuse, composting, resource management, closed-loop systems, procurement, and sustainability.
